Full day, 8 hours

  • Times: 08:00 to 16:00 (arrive by 07:45)
  • Season: Ring for dates
  • Departs: St Peter Port Harbour
  • Suits: Keen anglers and groups

A full day gives us time to go further afield, out to the banks or over to Sark. Before we leave we'll decide what sort of fishing to do, which depends on the weather, the tide, the time of year and what you're hoping for. If you're less experienced, or don't fancy so long on the water, we can arrange a later start.

There's tea and coffee on board and a toilet, but bring your own lunch and cold drinks.

Included

  • Bait
  • Tea and coffee
  • Tuition
  • Life jackets

Richard was friendly, welcoming, knowledgable and helpful. Obviously knew his fish and where to find them…

4 hours

  • Times: 4 hours, start time sorted when you book
  • Season: Ring for dates
  • Departs: St Peter Port Harbour
  • Suits: Most anglers, beginners included

Long enough to get a proper bit of fishing in. We go to whichever marks suit the tide on the day.

Evening, 3 hours

  • Times: 18:00 to 21:00 (arrive by 17:45)
  • Season: Ring for dates
  • Departs: St Peter Port Harbour
  • Suits: Beginners and families

We fish one or more of the marks off the east coast. It's a great introduction to angling, and don't forget to bring a bag (or two) for your catch.

…In our party of 6 anglers we caught in excess of 40 fish of 6 different species.

Kids' trip, 3 hours

  • Times: 3 hours, start time sorted when you book
  • Season: Weekends and school holidays
  • Departs: St Peter Port Harbour
  • Fishing: East coast marks
  • Suits: Up to 2 kids (15 and under) per adult

The children get shown how to bait up and use the gear, how to put back any fish that isn't going to be eaten, and a few ways to cook the ones that are.

There are life jackets on board and I'd like everyone to keep one on the whole time. The catamaran gives a very stable ride, which suits anyone new to boating. If yours are very young, have a word with me first.

Richard does a good job keeping interest levels, moving around the boat and helping the kids…

Visiting anglers

  • Times: Several days
  • Season: See the season guide
  • Departs: St Peter Port Harbour
  • Suits: Visiting anglers and clubs

If you're coming over to fish I'd say a week's charter is best, though two or three days is OK. I've had anglers and clubs over from Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Jersey, Shetland and the UK.

For somewhere to stay, try the Pandora Hotel, or the Captain's Hotel in St Martin. If you're at the Pandora, reception can book your place on the boat.

What's about each month

Keeping your catch

Most of what you catch you can take home, so bring a bag or a cool box. I'll show you how to clean them and give you a recipe or two. But these always go back.

  • Tope, which have to be released unharmed under Guernsey rules.
  • Any bass caught from the boat, every one of them.
  • Any ray I tell you to put back, such as small-eyed or undulate ray.
